Senior Director – Terminal Equipment Project Delivery - Los Angeles Lead Complex Port & Industrial Equipment Projects
We are seeking an experienced Senior Director of Terminal Equipment Project Delivery to lead the successful execution of large-scale terminal equipment projects throughout North America. This executive-level role is responsible for overseeing the installation, modernization, repair, troubleshooting, and commissioning of ship-to-shore cranes and other critical terminal equipment systems.

Reporting directly to senior executive leadership, this position serves as the operational leader for project delivery, providing strategic direction, technical oversight, customer engagement, and leadership of multidisciplinary teams including engineering professionals, project managers, and union labor crews.

Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Execution
  • Lead all phases of terminal equipment projects from contract award through final commissioning and turnover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies that align engineering, field operations, and customer expectations.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects across various customer locations.
  • Identify project risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
Engineering & Technical Oversight
  • Provide leadership and direction to project engineering teams, including:
    • Project Engineers
    • Electrical & Automation Engineers
    • Drive and Control System Specialists
  • Support technical decision-making related to:
    • Industrial electrical systems
    • PLC and automation controls
    • Motor drives and VFD systems
    • Equipment modifications and upgrades
    • System integration and commissioning
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical, automation, and control system issues.
  • Provide equipment troubleshooting support across all operational locations as required.
Team Leadership
  • Lead a multidisciplinary project delivery organization that may include:
    • Director of Project Execution
    • Director of Project Controls
    • Project Engineers
    • Senior Electrical & Automation Engineers
    • Specialized Controls Engineers
    • Union maintenance and installation crews
  • Foster strong collaboration between engineering teams, technical specialists, and union labor personnel.
  • Promote accountability, communication, and operational excellence throughout the organization.
Financial & Operational Management
  • Maintain ownership of project financial performance, including:
    • Budget development
    • Cost control
    • Forecasting
    • Resource planning
  • Partner with Project Controls leadership to ensure accurate project reporting, schedule management, and performance tracking.
  • Provide regular project status updates to executive leadership.
Customer & Stakeholder Relations
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for customers during project execution.
  • Lead customer meetings to review project status, technical issues, schedules, and solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication and successful project outcomes.
  • Ensure a professional, solutions-oriented approach to all customer interactions.
Safety & Compliance
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Partner with Environmental Health & Safety leadership to support safe project execution within active terminal and industrial environments.
Qualifications Required Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience managing complex industrial equipment projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale projects involving multiple stakeholders and technical disciplines.
  • Experience managing engineering teams and union labor crews in field environments.
Industry Experience
Strong experience in one or more of the following:
  • Port and terminal operations
  • Container crane systems
  • Industrial automation
  • Heavy industrial facilities
  • Large mechanical and electrical installations
  • Marine terminal equipment
  • Industrial commissioning and startup
Technical Knowledge
Working knowledge of:
  • Industrial electrical systems
  • PLC and automation controls
  • Motor drives and VFD systems
  • Large mechanical and structural equipment
  • Equipment commissioning and troubleshooting
  • Industrial control systems

  • Exceptional operational leadership and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication skills with executives, customers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel.
