Project Engineer

Job Description
The Project Engineer is a technical expert responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving the performance of Ship-to-Shore (STS) container cranes supporting a 24/7 port operation. This role provides hands-on leadership to union mechanics, leads special crane projects, and drives workforce training and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as subject matter expert for crane maintenance and troubleshooting

Lead rapid response to crane breakdowns and document solutions for training

Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to union mechanics

Lead special projects including crane raises and new crane deliveries

Develop and deliver technical training programs to upskill the workforce

Ensure cranes are maintained safely, reliably, and cost-effectively

Identify recurring issues and implement long-term solutions

Coordinate maintenance planning and continuous improvement efforts

Ensure compliance with safety procedures, labor agreements, and regulations

Travel periodically to support projects at other terminal locations
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
-
10+ years of crane maintenance experience (port, construction, or industrial)
-
Strong PLC, drives, and controls troubleshooting experience
-
Experience with STS cranes required; RTG, ASC, RMG experience a plus

Familiarity with Siemens, TMEIC, Fuji, and ABB drives
-
Strong computer, documentation, and training skills
-
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities
