Job Description
The General Manager of Terminal Services is responsible for overseeing terminal operations and maintaining strong customer relationships by understanding customer needs, contract terms, and operational requirements. This role leads a union workforce performing stevedoring and terminal cargo activities, with a primary focus on Safety, Customer Service, Production, and Labor Relations.
This position supports a 24/7 terminal operation, including rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities

Direct and evaluate the performance of clerks, chief clerks, foremen, and all assigned personnel

Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures
-
Actively monitor and manage operational safety to ensure a safe work environment

Identify training and development needs for staff
-
Plan and assign workforce needs for each shift
-
Implement daily operational changes to improve efficiency and quality
-
Reassign labor based on operational requirements
-
Manage inventory control and ordering processes
-
Select, manage, and evaluate labor and supervisory staff
-
Ensure work directives are properly documented and communicated
-
Engage in the interactive process regarding reasonable accommodations
-
Participate in interviews and make hiring recommendations
-
Administer and comply with collective bargaining agreements (CBA)

Maintain positive labor relations with union officials and employees
-
Issue disciplinary actions, warnings, and employer complaints as necessary
-
Manage workers’ compensation procedures
-
Provide daily updates to senior leadership regarding safety, customer service, production, and labor relations

Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
-
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation, Logistics Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
-
Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in maintenance, repair, or union environments

Valid driver’s license

Valid TWIC card
