About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Equipment Manager to lead and coordinate the performance, maintenance, and lifecycle management of container terminal equipment. This role is critical in ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and cost-effective while maintaining high standards for workplace safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead maintenance operations for container terminal equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Provide leadership and direction to contracted maintenance teams and ensure adequate staffing.
- Develop and manage proactive maintenance schedules in collaboration with contractors and operations teams.
- Manage equipment inventory, ensuring necessary spare parts are available while minimizing excess.
- Monitor and improve equipment reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness across all assets.
- Collaborate with different departments to resolve conflicting priorities or operational needs.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce safety protocols.
- Provide on-call support and backup coverage for planned or unplanned absences.
- Maintain up-to-date records, work instructions, and tracking reliability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with CMMS (e.g., eMaint) and asset management tools.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage union labor environments.
- Solid grasp of maintenance best practices such as Preventative/Predictive Maintenance, LEAN, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Work indoors (office) and outdoors (yard, onboard vessels, around heavy machinery).
- Exposure to noise, dust, weather, and hazardous materials.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and operating vehicles around cargo-handling zones.
