Job Description
HumanHire is partnered with a leading Bank to find a Consumer Loan Underwriter to join the organizations growing team in Rome, NY.
The Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and decisioning consumer loan applications, including auto loans, personal loans, credit cards, and other unsecured credit requests. Please note that this is a long term contract opportunity, with potential to convert to a permanent position.
We Offer:
- Pay: $28-30/hour plus OT and weekly pay and bonus
- Unique Bonus Structure: Up to 10% in annual bonus when permanent

Consumer Loan Underwriter Responsibilities:
- Review, analyze, and underwrite consumer loan applications using manual and automated decision-making tools.
- Evaluate creditworthiness by assessing credit reports, income documentation, debt-to-income (DTI) ratios, loan-to-value (LTV) ratios, and other risk factors.
- Make timely and accurate credit decisions within assigned authority limits or recommend decisions to higher authority levels when necessary.
- Communicate loan decisions to lending staff or directly to members, providing clear rationale and offering alternatives when applicable.
- Maintain a strong understanding of credit union policies, lending regulations (e.g., Fair Lending, ECOA, TILA), and compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of Underwriter experience
- Consumer Loan experience highly preferred
- Ability to obtain and retain NMLA license
